Transfer Talks of August 16: Chelsea close to double transfer deal, acquiring Lavia, Olise

Posted : 16 August 2023
Chelsea is on the verge of securing a double coup in the transfer market, edging out Liverpool for the signings of Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia and Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise. Additionally, Luton Town is set to welcome goalkeeper Tim Krul back to the Premier League.

The Daily Mail reports that Chelsea has reached an agreement with Southampton for the transfer of 19-year-old midfielder Romeo Lavia for a fee of £58 million. Despite Liverpool's interest, Lavia will be making his move to Stamford Bridge to join Mauricio Pochettino's squad. The deal includes an additional £5 million in add-ons, pushing Chelsea's spending under owner Todd Boehly close to surpassing the £1 billion mark.

In addition to the Lavia deal, the Mirror indicates that Chelsea is making progress in their pursuit of Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise. Chelsea activated a release clause in Olise's contract, which has reportedly raised concerns at Palace. The 21-year-old, known for his 11 Premier League assists last season, could become the next star player to leave the club after Wilfried Zaha. A bid of £35 million has been submitted, with negotiations ongoing for the playmaker's transfer. This potential signing would elevate Chelsea's summer spending beyond £300 million.

In another development, Premier League newcomers Luton Town are poised to secure the return of 35-year-old goalkeeper Tim Krul to the top flight. Krul, previously with Newcastle and Norwich, is anticipated to finalize a deal with Luton. Personal terms and an agreement between the clubs have been reached, paving the way for Krul to undergo a medical with the Hatters. The completion of the transfer is anticipated within the next 24 hours, according to reports.

While Chelsea makes waves in the transfer market, Al-Hilal has reportedly offered a substantial deal to Neymar following his departure from Paris Saint-Germain. The Saudi club aims to secure the Brazilian star's services as they continue to make significant moves in the transfer window.
