Tradesafe FC are the 2024 Lagos Grassroots Cup champions after beating fellow debutants B. United in last night's thriller at Abesan Youth Center.
After a goalless first half, in which both sides failed to convert numerous chances, Habeeb Quadri gave Tradesafe the lead, which lasted for just 3 minutes before Ezekiel Samson leveled the score for B. United.

Akeem Oniyintan seemed to have given United the title when he scored two minutes before full time, but parity was restored in 3 minutes of added time as Rasaq Jamiu broke the hearts of United and their fans with his 8th goal of the competition, sending the game into penalties.
Tradesafe eventually won 6-5, much to the delight of their vociferous fans.
The third-place match was won by EL-Cadiz, who beat Wolves 3-2, with all three goals coming from the boot of Azees Olamilekan.
Richard Vollman of B. United was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament with his 7 goals. Sadly for him, he failed to convert his penalty.
The highest goal scorer award went to Rasaq Jamiu of Tradesafe, while the Best Goalkeeper award went to Adebayo Ayomide of Tradesafe. All three awards were sponsored by Prostar Sports, a division of Zenith Sports.
The top three teams received prize money of N250,000 donated by Doregos Private Academy, medals courtesy of Sibaam Golden Schools and Sharwarma Arena, while Renics College donated a set of jerseys for the winner.
Some of the teams also went home with match balls donated by NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, BrandVision, Zenith Sports, Platform Schools, and Elibel Schools.
The Lagos Grassroots Cup started in 1999 as the Abesan Cup before being renamed in 2016. No team has won it back-to-back since its inception.
A total of 23 teams participated in this year's edition, which also received support from Fruts, Flour Mills, FanMilk Plc, and Tasty Time.
The Lagos Grassroots Cup, organized by Wonderland Events, comes just days after the Musa Kida Basketball Competition Season 2, which took place at Abesan Mini Stadium.
Tayo Adeyemo of Wonderland Events stated that the next event is the Inter-Schools Sports Challenge for private schools in Lagos State.
