Former Turkish Super Lig champions Trabzonspor have initiated discussions with Lyon regarding a potential transfer for Nigerian striker Gift Orban. The Turkish club, actively seeking attacking reinforcements this summer following the end of Paul Onuachu’s loan, has been exploring various options.
Trabzonspor had been negotiating with Southampton to secure Onuachu on a permanent basis. However, a stumbling block emerged due to the €13 million asking price set by the Saints, while Trabzonspor aimed to offer only half that amount. This financial gap has complicated the move.
In light of these challenges, Trabzonspor seems to be pivoting towards pursuing Orban. Reports from Sacha Tavolieri indicate that Trabzonspor is now seriously considering a move for the Lyon forward.
Trabzonspor has reportedly proposed a season-long loan arrangement, offering €1 million for the deal. Additionally, they have included a buyout clause valued at €6 million, which would only be triggered if Orban manages to score 20 league goals during the season.
As of now, Lyon has not yet responded to Trabzonspor’s offer. Given that Lyon invested €14 million in Orban just nine months ago, they are unlikely to accept a buyout clause that would result in a loss.
It appears that a loan agreement might be the most feasible outcome, allowing Orban to return to France at the end of the season. This arrangement would enable Lyon to retain their investment while providing Orban with the opportunity to showcase his talent in the Turkish Super Lig.
