Scottish Premiership team Motherwell has officially announced the acquisition of Jonathan Obika, a seasoned striker who honed his skills in the Tottenham Hotspur youth system.
The deal between the two clubs was made public through an announcement on Motherwell's official website.
Initially joining Motherwell on loan during the January transfer window, Obika showcased his talent in ten matches for the Steelmen, finding the back of the net on one occasion.
Impressed by his performances, Motherwell made the decision to secure his services on a permanent basis, signing him to a one-year contract.
The agreement is subject to international clearance and also includes an option for an additional year, demonstrating the club's confidence in his abilities.
While Obika endured a setback towards the end of last season, missing out on seven league games due to a hamstring injury, he made a triumphant return to the pitch, participating in the team's final three matches after making a full recovery.
His arrival at Motherwell marks a new chapter in his career, as he enters the club as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Morecambe at the end of this month.
Having accumulated a wealth of experience throughout his footballing journey, the 32-year-old striker boasts an impressive resume, having represented various clubs such as Swindon Town, Oxford United, and St Mirren.
In addition to his permanent stints, Obika has also embarked on loan spells at notable teams including Yeovil Town, Millwall, Crystal Palace, Peterborough United, Swindon Town, Charlton Athletic, and Brighton & Hove Albion, all while under the auspices of Tottenham Hotspur.
His tenure at Tottenham lasted eight years, during which he had the opportunity to make four appearances for the club's first team before deciding to explore new horizons in 2014.
With his signing, Motherwell hopes to leverage Obika's experience, goal-scoring prowess, and the skills he honed at one of England's prominent clubs to bolster their attacking force and contribute to their success in the upcoming season.
