Tottenham unveil shirt number for Super Eagles-eligible player ahead of Premier League debut
Posted : 13 August 2023
Destiny Udogie, an Italy U21 player with Nigerian heritage, is set to have his full Premier League debut against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium under the guidance of Tottenham Hotspur's manager, Ange Postecoglou.
Udogie, a Super Eagles-eligible left-back, will be sporting the number 38 jersey for the 2023-2024 season, after initially having the provisional squad number 73 for pre-season matches against West Ham United, Lion City Sailors, and Shakhtar Donetsk.
He joins Jonathan Obika as the second player of Nigerian descent to don Tottenham's number 38 jersey.
Udogie takes over the number from Yves Bissouma, who had it in the previous season and now wears number 8 for the current campaign.
The number 38 jersey has previously been worn by players like Cameron Carter-Vickers, Ryan Mason, David Bentley, Troy Archibald-Henville, and Charlie Lee.
Udogie, who previously wore the number 13 for Udinese and Hellas Verona, as well as Italy during the 2023 European U21 Championship, continues his football journey with this new opportunity.
