Tottenham thinks about firing Cristian Stellini after humbling loss to Newcastle
Posted : 25 April 2023
On Sunday, Spurs lost humiliatingly 6-1 at St. James' Park, allowing five goals in the first 21 minutes. Stellini later acknowledged that his game strategy was flawed, and it is now being questioned if he is the ideal person to take the situation through to the end of the season.
Following Antonio Conte's resignation as head coach on March 26, Stellini was appointed to temporarily oversee first-team matters at Tottenham. Since then, the north London team has only won one of four games, and there is now a very real chance that they may lose out on a top-four finish and Champions League status.
According to The Athletic, Stellini will soon be relieved of his responsibilities, and the Spurs are considering making another change in the dugout. If that choice is made, Ryan Mason, who has served as interim manager in the past, will take over the reins while the search for a permanent manager is conducted.
Spurs are currently in fifth place in the Premier League table, but they are currently six points behind fourth place after playing more games than all of the teams above them. They are also only four points ahead of Brighton in eighth place, and they have difficult matches against Manchester United and Liverpool coming up.
