Tottenham's dominant victory over Aston Villa revives top-four hopes, West Ham, Burnley share points in 2-2 draw

Posted : 10 March 2024

Tottenham revived their pursuit of a top-four finish in the Premier League with a resounding 4-0 victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park. Ange Postecoglou's side faced a crucial match, knowing defeat could severely harm their Champions League qualification hopes.

In a rainy encounter, James Maddison, Brennan Johnson, Son Heung-min, and Timo Werner scored in the second half, securing Tottenham's win and narrowing the gap to just two points behind fourth-placed Villa, with a game in hand. Postecoglou expressed satisfaction with the team's performance, stating, "Everyone was billing this as a do-or-die for us. I assume we're not dead yet."

On another front, West Ham and Burnley played out a 2-2 draw at the London Stadium, dealing a blow to Burnley's relegation survival hopes. Burnley initially took a two-goal lead with strikes from David Datro Fofana and an own goal by Konstantinos Mavropanos.

However, West Ham fought back, with Lucas Paqueta reducing the deficit immediately after halftime and Danny Ings securing a last-minute equalizer. The result left Burnley 10 points from safety with 10 games remaining, a significant setback in their desperate battle for survival.

Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest faced a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Brighton, as Andrew Omobamidele's first-half own goal ended Brighton's three-match winless streak.

Despite Forest's grievances over a potential red card incident involving Jakub Moder, they remain in a precarious position, just three points above the relegation zone.

The loss compounded Forest's struggles to distance themselves from the threat of relegation in a tightly contested battle at the bottom of the Premier League table.
