Tottenham Hotspur reportedly faced off interest from Premier League rival Manchester United to secure a new contract for promising Lambeth-born Nigerian midfielder Callum Olusesi.
According to Football Insider, Olusesi had attracted attention from clubs such as Manchester United, Newcastle United, Leeds United, and Brighton & Hove. However, Tottenham acted swiftly to offer him a scholarship and then extend his stay with a professional contract.
At 17 years old, Olusesi signed his first professional contract with Tottenham on Monday, committing to the club until at least the end of the 2025-2026 season.
Highly regarded by Tottenham's coaching staff, Olusesi made appearances in various competitions during his final season as a schoolboy, including the UEFA Youth League, U18 Premier League, and U18 Premier League Cup.
Throughout the current season, the versatile midfielder has showcased his adaptability by featuring in different attacking roles, including center forward and attacking midfield positions.
His goal-scoring prowess has been evident, with nine goals registered across competitions such as the U18 Premier League, FA Youth Cup, and U18 Premier League Cup.
Olusesi joins Damola Ajayi as the second Nigerian player to sign a professional contract with Tottenham during the ongoing campaign.
In November 2023, he was provisionally tied to England, his country of birth, after representing the Young Lions in a 2024 European U17 Championship qualifying match against Faroe Islands.
