Tottenham players promise to refund fans' Newcastle game ticket costs

Players from Tottenham Hotspur have volunteered to pay back fans' match tickets after the 6-1 loss to Newcastle United on Sunday.

After 21 minutes of play, Spurs trailed 5-0, and interim manager Cristian Stellini has subsequently been fired.

"As a squad, we understand your frustration, your anger," said a statement from Tottenham's players.

"It wasn't good enough. We know words aren't enough in situations like this but a defeat like this hurts."

Ryan Mason, a former assistant to Antonio Conte and Stellini, will be in charge of Tottenham's next match against Manchester United on Thursday at home.

Six points behind Manchester United in fourth and Newcastle United in third place in the Premier League standings, Spurs are fifth.

Tottenham has one game more than Newcastle, while Manchester United has two games to play before the London club.
