Wednesday's 0-0 draw with AC Milan saw Tottenham Hotspur exit the Champions League at the last-16 round after defender Cristian Romero received a red card.
Spurs needed to overcome a 1-0 first-leg deficit, but after a lackluster performance at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in which they managed only two shots on goal, they fell short by that margin overall. Within the first 20 minutes, Romero tackled Rafael Leao and received his first caution. Twelve minutes from the end, Romero was dismissed for a careless swing on Theo Hernandez.
Harry Kane headed in a free kick from Son Heung-min in stoppage time, pushing Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan into his best save of the game before substitute Divock Origi's goal-bound shot at the other end.
While Spurs are left to lament another trophyless campaign with a performance that will fuel rumors about the future of head coach Antonio Conte, Milan can rejoice making it to the final eight of Europe's top club competition for the first time since 2011–12.
