Tottenham confirms Harry Kane's transfer to Bayern

Posted : 12 August 2023
After overcoming initial hurdles, the highly anticipated summer transfer is progressing: Tottenham Hotspur officially confirmed on Friday that Harry Kane is en route to Germany to finalize his move to Bayern Munich.

The striker will undergo medical assessments and formalize a four-year contract with the club.

A minor twist unfolded earlier, when Kane was headed to the London airport but was abruptly halted by a call from Tottenham, temporarily prohibiting his departure to Munich.

Patiently waiting in his car, he finally received the awaited authorization from Spurs to proceed.

This announcement came as a surprise, contrasting with prevailing reports that Kane had been granted permission by Tottenham Hotspur to travel for medical evaluations, signifying a "done deal." The transfer fee for Kane stands at €100 million, after he turned down two lower offers from Bayern in recent weeks.

Amidst the backdrop of Tottenham's Premier League opener against Brentford on Sunday, Kane demanded a resolution before the match.

While recent speculations suggested his stay at the club, he ultimately opted for Germany, joining Bayern to pursue Champions League glory and vie for his first title.

Kane, entering the final year of his contract, had been the subject of negotiations for a new deal with Tottenham.

The impasse led the club to make the difficult choice of selling their star rather than losing him for free next year.

With 280 goals in 435 games, the 30-year-old Kane is Tottenham's all-time leading scorer and a prominent figure in football yet to secure a trophy, making a transfer to Bayern an enticing prospect.

Conversely, Bayern hopes to fill the void left by Robert Lewandowski upon his departure to Barcelona.

Kane ranks second on the Premier League's all-time top scorers list with 213 goals, trailing only Alan Shearer (260).

He also holds the title of England's highest scorer with 58 goals. In a lighthearted tweet, Shearer encouraged Kane's move, quipping: "Come on Harry, it's time for you to leave."
