Finnish Veikkausliiga club FC Lahti has officially confirmed the acquisition of Joshua Oluwayemi, a product of the Tottenham Hotspur academy, as announced on their official website. Oluwayemi, previously with EFL League One's Portsmouth, left Fratton Park after accumulating nine appearances, securing four clean sheets.
Although born in London, England, Oluwayemi gained recognition when called up as the backup goalkeeper for the Super Eagles during a friendly against Mexico in July 2021. The talented goalkeeper has inked a one-year deal with FC Lahti, committing to stay with the Black Drones until the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Oluwayemi's senior debut occurred during a loan stint with Maidenhead United in the National League during the first half of the 2020-2021 season. Recognizing his potential, former Tottenham Hotspur coach Jose Mourinho included Oluwayemi in first-team training multiple times toward the end of the 2020-2021 campaign. Mourinho even selected him as the 21st player for a Premier League encounter against Newcastle United at St. James' Park in April 2021.
Known for his agility, exceptional shot-stopping abilities, quick reflexes, and prowess in one-on-one situations, Oluwayemi is poised to join FC Lahti's roster, integrating with his new teammates at the end of January.
