Jordan Torunarigha, a defender known for his defensive prowess, is actively working on improving his offensive skills by studying the playing style of Brazil's all-time top scorer, Neymar Júnior. The former Germany youth international is determined to evolve into a more well-rounded defender.
In the previous season, the 26-year-old showed signs of improvement in the final third by scoring three goals and providing two assists in the Jupiler Pro League. In the current season, he has already contributed with a goal and an assist for Gent. Torunarigha shared that he has been closely analyzing Neymar's gameplay to elevate his own offensive performance.
Speaking to Het Nieuwsblad, Torunarigha mentioned his focus on understanding Neymar's actions, emphasizing the importance of seizing opportunities and delivering quality crosses when needed. He expressed his determination to keep progressing and achieving even better results. He also highlighted the significance of maintaining a compact defense, suggesting there is still room for improvement in that aspect.
In contrast to fellow countryman Gift Orban, Torunarigha has been a regular starter for Gent this season, participating in a total of 18 games across the Jupiler Pro League and UEFA Europa Conference League.
Looking ahead, he is a strong candidate for inclusion in the Super Eagles squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe, showcasing his commitment to enhancing his skills and contributing to his national team's success.
