Tony Mowbray, the manager of relegated Championship club Birmingham City, has announced his resignation with immediate effect. Mowbray, who had been on sick leave since February, cited his health and family as his primary reasons for stepping down. Despite his brief tenure, Mowbray managed to secure four victories out of eight games after succeeding Wayne Rooney in January.
In response to Mowbray's decision, Blues co-owner Tom Wagner expressed disappointment but respected Mowbray's prioritization of his well-being and family commitments. Mowbray's departure comes after a period of medical leave, during which his assistant Mark Venus also resigned, leading to the return of former Birmingham boss Gary Rowett to the club.
Having been unable to prevent Birmingham's relegation, Mowbray now aims to focus on his recovery from surgery and spend quality time with his family. His departure marks the end of a brief but eventful tenure at the club, leaving Birmingham City in search of new leadership as they navigate their way forward.
