Tom Lockyer, the captain of Luton Town, collapsed after game

Posted : 28 May 2023
After learning that club captain Tom Lockyer passed out following his team's shootout triumph over Coventry City at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, Luton Town manager Rob Edwards stated he could not take part in the celebrations of his team getting promoted to the Premier League.

With no other player around, Lockyer, 28, suffered a serious injury just 12 minutes into the Championship playoff final. The club eventually acknowledged that he had been brought to a hospital and was awake after being carried off on a stretcher.

The defender has been a key component of Luton's solid defence all season as the team allowed only 39 goals in the league.

When questioned about visiting Lockyer in the hospital, Edwards responded:: "If we can then we will. As a group we're so tight. I'm not sure if 40 people are allowed to go see someone at hospital, so we'll have to check on that. But I'm just so thankful he's OK.

"That's why I wasn't really able to enjoy the celebrations at the end, because all I could think about was Locks."
Despite losing their star defender, Luton battled back to win the 1-1 shootout and earn their first-ever promotion to the Premier League with a 6-5 triumph.

Lockyer is having testing, according to Edwards, and he is unsure of the full scope of the problem that compelled him off the field.
