Tico Select 2024: Teams get tournament kits, items

Posted : 26 August 2024

In fulfillment of their promises, the organizers of the 6th edition of the Ifeanyi Ekwueme TICO SELECT Preseason Football Tournament, “Abakaliki 2024,” have handed out official tournament kits and items.

Presenting the items at the Pa Ngele Stadium in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, the sole sponsor of the tournament, Ifeanyi Ekwueme, distributed tournament tags, match balls, and official team T-shirts, among other items, to the delight of the participating teams.

The LOC Chairman, Mr. Nnamdi Chukwumeremeze, informed the tournament media that the exercise was in line with their promise to ensure a modern and professional tournament.

He stated that the official wear and the SELECT match balls are motivational efforts by the sole sponsor, ex-international Ifeanyi Ekwueme, to encourage the teams.

The teams that received the kits and tournament items include Abia Warriors FC of Umuahia, Rangers FC of Enugu, Mathias FC of Abakaliki, Excellent FC of Ugheli, Delta State, Kun Khalifat FC of Owerri, Apex Krane FC of Asaba, and Enyimba FC of Aba, as well as the Ebonyi State FA Secretary.

A highlight of the brief event was the official unveiling of the tournament’s brand-new FIFA World Cup look-alike trophy by beautiful models, which added glamour to the games.

Four games were played today as the matches returned to Pa Ngele Stadium, Abakaliki.

In the first game, Achievers FC were held to a 2-2 draw by Mathias FC, while Kun Khalifat FC of Owerri, in their second outing, held NPFL champions Rangers Int’l FC of Enugu to a 1-1 draw.

In the third game of the day, Abia Warriors continued their dominance of Group A as they edged Apex Krane FC 2-1, while Enyimba FC overcame the challenge from Excellent FC with a narrow 1-0 victory.

Teams wore black armbands and observed a one-minute silence in honor of Coach Christian Obi, who lost his life in a tragic accident involving Heartland FC on Friday along the Umuna-Okigwe Road, Imo State.

Action continues tomorrow, Monday, August 26, 2024, starting at 9 a.m. as Coal City FC of Enugu takes on Kun Khalifat FC.

The second game will see Enyimba FC face Great Achievers FC of Enugu, while the third and final game of the day will feature an Oriental derby between Abia Warriors FC and Rangers Int’l FC, which is expected to be a battle for supremacy.
