"Thrilled to return after injury," says Sevilla's Ejuke

Posted : 23 January 2025

Sevilla's Nigerian winger, Chidera Ejuke, has shared his joy at returning to action after spending months on the sidelines with a hamstring injury. His return came during Sevilla's 2-1 triumph over Girona at Estadi Municipal de Montilivi, where he was introduced as a substitute in the final minutes of the match.

Ejuke’s absence had been a challenge for Sevilla, as the team struggled to maintain consistency without his dynamic presence. Known for his skillful dribbling and direct approach, Ejuke was a key player before his injury, often dazzling fans and contributing significantly to the team's attack.

The 26-year-old suffered the injury during a league match against Barcelona on October 20, 2024. This setback forced him to miss 12 games, including nine La Liga fixtures and three Copa del Rey ties, leaving a noticeable gap in Sevilla's squad.

Before his injury, Ejuke had made nine appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal. His performances also earned him a call-up to Nigeria's Super Eagles squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Libya, highlighting his importance at both club and international levels.

Speaking to El Correo de Andalucía, Ejuke expressed his happiness at rejoining the team. "It felt great to be back with the squad after such a long time away. I was thrilled to come on in the final minutes and contribute, even if just a little. It felt like a significant step forward," he said.

While excited about his return, Ejuke acknowledged the need to regain full fitness gradually. "I feel good, but after being sidelined for so long, it’s a process of taking things game by game. I’m optimistic and looking forward to getting back to my best," he added.

Sevilla's next fixture is a home clash against relegation-battling Espanyol, and there’s hope that Ejuke will feature in some capacity. The Nigerian winger joined Sevilla last summer after his contract with Russian side CSKA Moscow expired, marking a new chapter in his career.
