Thousands of football fans troop Balmoral Centre to witness 2024 Goal Fest

It was an unprecedented turnout on Saturday as football fans thronged the 2024 Goal Fest viewing center to watch the 2024 UEFA Champions League final in Lagos.

The free football viewing center for the finals of the most prestigious club competition, the UEFA Champions League, was situated at the Balmoral Centre, Federal Palace Hotels, Ahmadu Bello Way.

The Balmoral Centre was filled to capacity as football fans from all over Lagos traveled to Victoria Island to watch the exciting final match between the then 14-time winners, Real Madrid, and German club, Borussia Dortmund.

The free football viewing centre, tagged 'Goal Fest,' was organized by Pepsi, Femi and the Gang, Football Republic, Indomie Noodles, Credit Pal Apex, among others.

Interestingly, 15 minutes into the match, many football fans were still in the queue struggling to get inside the viewing center.

One of the fans, a Borussia Dortmund supporter named Desmond Uchechukwu, commended the organizers for the initiative.

“This is a great initiative by the organizers. I can say that spectator enthusiasm is what makes the difference in football.

“The number of people we have here is amazing. It is only football as a sport that can draw as many people as we have seen today,” he said.

Reacting to Real Madrid's 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund, a fan, DJ Tunex, described the match as worthy of an exciting final.

“I really didn’t expect that Borussia Dortmund would give Real Madrid such a tough time. Besides, they had a well-balanced first half.

“The Dortmund team really gave the Madrid team a run for their money,” he said.

Segun Ibukun, in his reaction, commended Madrid for winning their 15th UEFA Champions League cup.

“Congratulations to Real Madrid. They are the kings of football in Europe. They deserve to win because they are the only team that did not lose a single match throughout the competition.

“Borussia Dortmund looks like a well-disciplined team. They are truly worthy finalists,” he said.

Africa Sport Network (ASN) reports that Real Madrid made it 12 times winning the coveted UEFA Champions League.

ASN also noted that Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti bagged a historic fifth Champions League title while Real secured their 15th win in the tournament.
