The Lionesses' 2023 Women's World Cup lineup will be without captain Leah Williamson; how can England fill her spot?
Posted : 23 April 2023
Leah Williamson won't be representing England in the Women's World Cup this summer, it was announced on Friday.
For a variety of reasons, it's a hammer blow. The Lionesses are captained by the Arsenal star, who is also an outstanding center defender and a part of such a strong back line.
Sarina Wiegman, the head coach, must choose not only the personality most suited to assuming the armband, but also the ideal player to fill her spot in the center of defense.
The latter issue might not have the easiest remedy. There are many alternatives given the variety of the England player pool, and the coach's decision might have a significant ripple effect.
