Terrific Newcastle thrashes weak Everton 4-1 in a Goodison riot

In a crushing 4-1 Premier League victory against second-bottom Everton on Thursday, Callum Wilson scored twice as Newcastle United strengthened their hold on a
Champions League qualifying spot, worsening the relegation situation at the Goodison Park side.
Aside from Joelinton and Jacob Murphy, Newcastle had too much talent for an Everton team that was last relegated in 1951 but is now very much in danger of doing so.
For the home team, Dwight McNeil scored a late consolation.
With 62 points from 32 games, Newcastle is in third position and on track to make the Champions League for the first time since 2002.
Everton, who is now in second-to-last place and two points off of a playoff spot, will travel to another struggling team Leicester City on Monday.
"First half was not perfect but second half was very good, we scored some very good goals," Newcastle manager Eddie Howe said.
"We really put our foot to the floor and showed what we are capable of.
"The end table will tell us where we are and what we have next season but for now we are just focusing on the next game [home to Southampton on Sunday]. We have returned to form in a really good way."
A boisterous crowd on Merseyside had gotten Everton off to a frenetic start, but the Premier League's lowest scorers were unable to capitalize on that pressure and ultimately fell victim to the visitors' decisive offensive play.
Jordan Pickford, the goalkeeper for Everton, could only deflect Joelinton's effort, and the ball landed pleasantly for the striker, who scored from six yards out.
It was perhaps unfair to Everton because the team had made a strong start and Dominic Calvert-Lewin was denied an equalizer on the cusp of halftime due to a close call on offside.
At the half, the game was evenly matched, but Newcastle took control and increased their lead when Joelinton headed in a second.
