According to a statement from the Nigeria Football Federation, Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro has selected a replacement for the injured Bayer Leverkusen player Victor Boniface.
Boniface withdrew from the Super Eagles squad for the Africa Cup of Nations due to a muscular injury that may keep him out for at least one month.
OGC Nice striker Terem Moffi has been chosen as Boniface's replacement, subject to approval from the Confederation of African Football.
The Nigeria Football Federation has emphasized that Moffi must receive approval from OGC Nice before joining the national team.
Per CAF regulations, a player in the final squad can only be replaced due to a serious injury no less than 24 hours before the team’s first match.
Moffi, surprisingly omitted from Nigeria's final 25-man squad, had been a consistent presence in the Super Eagles lineup under Jose Peseiro, except for the internationals in June against Sierra Leone and São Tomé and Príncipe.
The former Lorient player debuted internationally in a friendly against Cameroon in June 2021 and has since earned 13 caps, scoring four goals.
Moffi is well-known in the French Ligue 1, having scored 46 goals in 119 matches and providing 12 assists.
