Tensions arise over Ousmane Dembele's transfer to PSG, fears price doubles
Posted : 31 July 2023
Based on Fabrizio Romano's report, it is said that Barcelona's attacking player is on the verge of finalizing his terms with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), the French champions.
However, Barcelona is attempting to delay the transfer until tomorrow, when the player's release clause of €50 million will double in value. This tactic has left the Catalans feeling frustrated, but they acknowledge that the decision lies with the player and his representatives.
The situation surrounding the transfer of Ousmane Dembele from Barcelona to PSG is causing tension as the French champions are working tirelessly to complete the deal. Dembele's current release clause stands at €50 million, but as of tomorrow, the start of August, it will increase twofold according to the terms of his contract.
Barcelona is making the negotiations challenging and is eager to retain Dembele. They tried to extend his contract, but their efforts were met with refusal from the player's representatives, who have already reached an agreement with PSG for the next five years.
Notably, a week ago, Dembele's camp requested improved conditions, but Xavi's team turned down the request.
PSG is desperate to secure Dembele's services, especially given the ongoing issue with Kylian Mbappe's contract. Mbappe seems uninterested in extending his contract with the French club, and it is set to expire soon.
PSG has made an offer to Barcelona for Dembele but has yet to receive a response. It appears that Barcelona is trying to delay the transfer until the release clause doubles, potentially dampening PSG's motivation to pursue the player further.
Barcelona is far from pleased with PSG's attempts to sign Dembele and their president, Joan Laporta, is reportedly furious over the negotiations. Reports from Catalan media suggest that if Dembele does move to PSG, Barcelona may react strongly and declare war on the French club. Coach Xavi has expressed that there is no point in pressuring the player, as the final decision rests with Dembele himself.
Ousmane Dembele has been part of Barcelona since 2017 when they acquired him from Borussia Dortmund for an estimated €148 million. During his time with the club, he has made 127 league appearances, scoring 27 goals.
In a recent exhibition match against arch-rivals Real Madrid in the USA, he contributed significantly by scoring Barcelona's first goal in their 3-0 victory.
