Liverpool Football Club has announced that Wellity Lucky, a highly talented Nigerian central defender, has signed a new contract with the club.
The 17-year-old has earned this first professional contract due to his exceptional performances for the Reds youth teams.
Originally from Zaragoza, Spain, Lucky joined the Liverpool Academy as a U13 player and has steadily progressed through the ranks.
In his final season as a schoolboy, he made his competitive debut for the U18s.
Since then, Lucky has become a key player for the Liverpool U18s and has featured in the prestigious FA Youth Cup this season.
Lucky has played non-binding games for England at U15 and U16 levels and could also represent Spain, his country of birth.
He began the season as a first-year scholar at Liverpool, along with another Spanish-born player of Nigerian descent, Elijah Izobodo John.
Both players will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Liverpool academy graduates Sheyi Ojo, Ovie Ejaria, and David Amoo, who made their debuts for the Liverpool first team before moving on to other clubs.
