Kennedy Boboye was in tears after Heartland FC defeated league leaders Remo Stars 3-1 on Thursday in a Match Day 16 fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.
At the end of the game, many Heartland supporters were seen chanting, demanding that Boboye remain as coach of the Naze Millionaires.
This comes after the executive governor of Imo state, Hope Uzodinma, ordered the reinstatement of Christian Obi as coach of the team.
A tearful Boboye dedicated the victory to the club’s fans during his post-match interview.
“This victory is for the fans. Imo state is where I have received the most support in my managerial career.
“I won’t be here for the next game. I wish them well; this is a place where the people had me at heart,” a teary Boboye expressed.
Boboye admitted that he is aware of the Governor’s directive while urging the players to give their best to coach Obi.
“The number one citizen of the state made a pronouncement, and this is my last game as the manager.
“Everything the players have done for me, they should do for Christian Obi. He was the one who recruited them.
“I have told the players to give him maximum support,” he concluded.
After seven matches in charge of Heartland FC, Boboye won three, lost three, and drew one game.
