Super Falcons-eligible midfielder Omotara Junaid has been named captain of the Arsenal Women U21 team for the 2024-2025 season by the coaching staff.
The England U17 international, who will celebrate her 17th birthday next month, recently signed a new two-year contract with Arsenal and has been promoted to the U21 squad for the upcoming two seasons.
In August, Junaid was invited to train with Arsenal’s first team and was registered for the UEFA Women's Champions League.
On August 31, she made her unofficial debut for the senior team in a behind-closed-doors pre-season friendly against Southampton, coming on as a substitute in the 87th minute.
Her inclusion in the squad came as a surprise, as she was only informed the night before the match that she would be part of the team.
Although many expected her to remain on the bench, Junaid took to the field late in the game, playing in the center of midfield despite her young age.
Despite being just 16 years old, she displayed composure beyond her years, completing several key passes and integrating smoothly into the game during her brief time on the pitch.
