The honor is given to the top African player competing in the French competition each season by France 24 and RFI among the eleven nominees for the Marc-Vivien Foé award.

The 23-year-old was considered for this award due to his double-digit goals for FC Lorient and Nice this season.

The Nice forward will face competition for the prize from Achraf Hakimi of PSG, Yunis Abdelhamid of Reims, Mama Baldé of Troyes, Mohamed Camara of Monaco, Habib Diallo of Strasbourg, Seko Fofana of Lens, Chancel Mbemba of Marseille, Marshall Munetsi of Reims, Salis Abdul Samed of Lens, and Hamari Traoré of Rennes.

The Nigerian, who will receive his first award, has been outstanding in 2022–23, scoring 19 goals overall across all competitions on the strength of 16 goals and 2 assists in the domestic league.

His latest overhead kick to silence FC Basel fans at home, giving him three goals in the Europa Conference League, caught the attention of the media.

He has undoubtedly earned the honor, which will be decided upon by a jury of about 100 former players and football-focused journalists from France and Africa.

On May 30, the winner will be announced by the two media outlets.
