Super Eagles star joins Salah, Isak as Europe’s top players

Super Eagles winger Moses Simon has been recognized as one of the most valuable players in Europe’s top five leagues. Simon’s remarkable performances have earned him a spot among elite company, including Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, and Manchester City’s Omar Marmoush in Transfermarkt’s latest rankings.

The list evaluates players based on their percentage contribution to their team’s league goals, with Simon ranked eighth in Europe. His impact on struggling Ligue 1 side Nantes is evident, as he plays a crucial role in the team’s attack. Despite Nantes’ position in 14th place, only three points clear of the relegation zone, Simon has delivered consistent performances that have kept his team competitive.

Simon has scored six goals in Ligue 1 this season, second only to Matthis Abline at Nantes. More impressively, he has registered seven assists, ranking him among the most creative players in the division. His ability to both score and create opportunities has been vital to Nantes’ survival hopes this season.

In total, Simon has been directly involved in 13 of Nantes’ 28 league goals, contributing to a staggering 46.4% of the team’s total. This makes him the most influential player for Nantes and the top contributor in the entire French top flight. His contribution also places him among Europe’s top players, underscoring his importance across major leagues.

Mohamed Salah leads the ranking with an incredible 63.8% contribution to Liverpool’s goals, followed by Lecce’s Nikola Krstovic at 60.0%. Alexander Isak of Newcastle rounds out the top three with 52.2%. Other notable players in the top ten include Tim Kleindienst (51.3%), Ante Budimir (50.0%), and Chris Wood (46.7%), with Simon edging out Ollie Watkins and Liam Delap to claim eighth place.

Simon’s standout performances for Nantes are likely to attract attention from top European clubs. The 28-year-old has been at Nantes since 2019, and his form this season suggests he could be seeking a new challenge. Marseille, OGC Nice, and AS Roma are among the clubs reportedly interested in signing the Nigerian winger this summer.

In addition to his club success, Simon is expected to carry his impressive form into Nigeria’s crucial World Cup qualifiers. Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has included Simon in his provisional squad, with the winger expected to be named in the final 23-man roster. Nigeria faces important fixtures against Rwanda and Zimbabwe as they aim to secure a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
