Super Eagles star garners Premier League interest; Fenerbahçe seeks renewal

Fenerbahçe is currently at a crucial juncture as they work to secure the future of Bright Osayi-Samuel amidst interest from two English clubs. The 26-year-old Nigerian's contract is set to expire at the end of the season, prompting the club's management to hasten negotiations to avoid losing him on a free transfer.


Reports from Turkish media indicate that one of the interested clubs is from the Premier League, while the other competes in the Championship. This has led Fenerbahçe to ramp up discussions with Osayi-Samuel, with plans to meet him in January to explore the possibility of extending his contract.


Since joining Fenerbahçe from QPR in 2021 for a fee of €508,000, Osayi-Samuel has made a significant impact, and it is understood that he is seeking a salary increase, which has complicated the negotiation process. The club remains committed to retaining the player, who has been an essential contributor to the squad, making 145 appearances and contributing 7 goals and 14 assists across all competitions.


This season, Osayi-Samuel has participated in six matches and has provided one assist, but his progress has been hampered by an ankle injury. He sustained this injury during a Europa League match against Union SG, where he was also sent off shortly after coming on as a substitute.


As a result of his injury, Osayi-Samuel missed Fenerbahçe's recent match against Antalyaspor. Despite his absence, the team performed admirably, securing a 2-0 victory, which saw manager José Mourinho face consequences for his behavior involving a laptop.


The win has propelled Fenerbahçe to second place in the Turkish Super Lig standings, trailing behind Galatasaray, which features Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen. The club’s management will be keen to ensure that they can hold onto Osayi-Samuel as they continue their push for success in the league.
