Austin Eguavoen, the stand-in coach of the Super Eagles, has described the news circulating about his resignation from the senior national team after the goalless draw against the Amavubi of Rwanda as unfortunate.
In an interview upon the team's return to Nigeria from Rwanda, Eguavoen dismissed the news as false, stating that he did not make such comments.
Recall that there have been stories circulating on social media about the purported resignation of Eguavoen from the Super Eagles following the clash in Kigali.
The 58-year-old Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Director was erroneously reported to have said that his job with the Super Eagles was finished.
Eguavoen clarified that such comments did not come from him.
"It's quite unfortunate that people spread incorrect information," Eguavoen said.
"Given the current situation, we don't need negative stories. I only discussed meeting with the football federation's hierarchy after the game to plan for the next matches."
"When I saw the story, I was concerned because what was reported was not accurate."
"I am very much in charge of the team. I am the Technical Director of the NFF, responsible for overseeing the Super Eagles at this moment, and that is what we are doing," he added.
In his fourth stint as Super Eagles coach, Eguavoen recorded one win and a draw in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025.
The Super Eagles defeated the Cheetahs of Benin Republic 3-0 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, thanks to a brace from 2024 Ballon d'Or nominee Ademola Lookman and a goal from reigning African Footballer of the Year Victor Osimhen.
However, the Super Eagles were held to a goalless draw at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali against the Amavubi in their second AFCON qualifier under Eguavoen's supervision.
