Super Eagles' Okoye praises Galatasaray, fueling transfer rumors

Maduka Okoye has ignited transfer rumors with his recent social media comments, where he described Galatasaray as the top club in Turkey, ranking them above their Istanbul rivals, Fenerbahce and Besiktas. His statement has fueled speculation about a potential move to the Turkish giants.  


Galatasaray holds the title of Turkey’s most successful football club, with an impressive record that includes 24 Turkish Super Lig championships, 18 Turkish Cup triumphs, and 17 Turkish Super Cup victories. Their dominance in domestic competitions has cemented their reputation as a powerhouse in Turkish football.  


Beyond their local success, Galatasaray has also left a mark on European football. They have secured both the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Super Cup, achievements that distinguish them from other Turkish clubs on the international stage.  


Despite signing a new contract with Udinese in August, Okoye's future with the Italian club remains uncertain. He is currently embroiled in a betting scandal, which could result in a suspension from professional football. This controversy has cast doubt over his role at the club moving forward.  


As a result, Okoye has been omitted from Udinese’s squad list for the remainder of the Serie A season, effectively ruling him out of competitive club football until further notice. His absence from match action could also impact his selection for Nigeria’s crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe next month.  


Reports suggest that Okoye has been offered a transfer opportunity to Galatasaray ahead of the next transfer window. His response to a fan’s message about joining the club, in which he declared Galatasaray as "definitely Turkey’s number one," has been interpreted as a sign of interest in a move.  


Throughout his career, Okoye has played for various clubs, including DJK SC Flingern 08, Fortuna Düsseldorf, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Bayer Leverkusen, Sparta Rotterdam, and Watford. A switch to Galatasaray would mark a new chapter in his journey, potentially offering him a fresh start in a new league.
