Turkish First League team Adanaspor has officially announced the signing of Bonke Innocent from French Ligue 2 side FC Lorient. The announcement was made through a statement on their official website, highlighting the acquisition of the Nigerian national team midfielder.
Bonke Innocent, a defensive midfielder, has agreed to a contract with Adanaspor that extends until June 30, 2024, with an option for the 2025-2026 season. This move follows a period of speculation about his future, as he did not feature in any games for Lorient this season.
The 28-year-old Nigerian joined Lorient as a free agent in January 2022. During his tenure at the club, he made a total of 42 appearances across all competitions, with 41 of those in Ligue 1. Despite his contributions, he has now moved on to a new challenge with Adanaspor.
Bonke began his career at Bujoc FC and subsequently played for Moderate Stars, Lillestrom, Malmö, and Lorient. Since relocating to Europe in August 2014, he has accumulated 195 appearances across these clubs, scoring a solitary goal in a Norwegian Cup match against Ullensaker/Kisa while at Lillestrom in May 2017.
His European career includes 27 appearances in various continental competitions, with 10 in Champions League qualifiers, 6 in the Champions League itself, 6 in the Europa League, and 5 in Europa League qualifiers. These experiences reflect his substantial involvement in European club football.
On the international stage, Bonke made his debut for the Super Eagles in a World Cup qualifier against Cape Verde in September 2021. He has since earned three additional caps, marking a brief but notable international career.
Bonke has not received a call-up to the Super Eagles since a friendly match against Mexico in May 2022, indicating a period of absence from the national team setup.
