Boavista defender Chidozie Awaziem's anticipated move back to FC Nantes has encountered a significant hurdle, ultimately leading to its collapse. This situation has been confirmed by multiple sources, including Tribune Nantaise.
Initially, Awaziem had expressed interest in rejoining Nantes, a club he had previously spent the 2017-2018 season with on loan. However, the deal hit a dead end when Boavista, the Portuguese club currently holding his contract, ceased all communication with Nantes.
Reports suggest that Boavista's leadership grew increasingly frustrated with Nantes for their slow progress in finalizing the transfer. Boavista saw this as an attempt by Nantes to secure Awaziem's services without a transfer fee, thus avoiding a compensation payment of 1.5 million euros.
Awaziem had been entangled in a dispute with Boavista over unpaid wages, which had initially threatened the possibility of his leaving the club for free this summer. Thankfully, both parties managed to resolve their differences. Nantes had indicated their readiness to meet the financial demands set forth for the transfer.
However, the breakdown in negotiations has led to a lack of updates from the Portuguese side. Boavista has now firmly stated their intention to retain Chidozie Awaziem and is focusing on their upcoming match against Casa Pia, likely with Awaziem in their starting lineup.
Awaziem, who had a successful spell at Croatia's Hajduk Split last season, has continued to shine at Boavista. He played a crucial role in their recent victories during the current league season. Notably, Boavista secured a remarkable 3-2 home win against Benfica and followed it up with an impressive 1-4 victory against Portimonense on the road.
