Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, has played down injury fears, stating that he will be available for the next match against Pelancras Negras of Angola in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final clash on Friday.
The Chippa United goalkeeper suffered a leg injury and was replaced by Francis Uzoho in the 80th minute of Saturday’s Round of 16, a 2-0 win over Cameroon, after being knocked severally and unnecessarily by a Cameroonian attacker.
Nigerians have been gripped by anxiety and apprehension since the incident, but the late call-up, who has so far proven to be an invaluable addition to the team, delivered the cheering news during an interview in Abidjan.
“I still feel pain in my leg; the pain is still there; they say there are no injuries, but I am still feeling pain. I will be fine,” he said.
The team’s doctor's examination reveals no injuries, but the player said he is still feeling pains in the leg, which are expected to completely go away before the Super Eagles take on Angola at Stade Félix Houphout-Boigny in Abidjan.
