Nigerian forward Tolu Arokodare has risen to the top of the Jupiler Pro League's scoring charts for the first time, following the departure of his compatriot, Paul Onuachu. Onuachu, who previously played for KRC Genk, moved to Southampton during the January transfer window. With a remarkable 16 goals in the 2022–23 season, Onuachu had been the league's top scorer.
Arokodare, who was signed by Genk as Onuachu's replacement, initially struggled to make an impact in his first season with the Belgian club. However, his recent performances have shown marked improvement, with his latest goal in Genk's 2-2 draw against St. Truiden bringing him to a total of 10 goals for the season. This was his first time reaching double digits in the league.

In that match, Arokodare’s strike in the 27th minute was initially flagged offside but was later confirmed by VAR, ensuring his goal was counted. This brought him level at the top of the scoring charts with Kasper Dolberg of RSC Anderlecht and Adriano Bertaccini of St. Truiden. It marks the first time since Onuachu’s exit that a Nigerian player has been atop the goal-scoring rankings for Genk.
Arokodare's recent form has been impressive. He has scored four goals and provided three assists in his last six appearances, making him one of the league's most in-form players. His performances have played a crucial role in Genk's push for the title, as they remain at the top of the standings with 35 points from 16 matches.
The Nigerian striker’s consistency in front of goal has not only propelled his club’s title charge but has also caught the attention of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). His continued goal-scoring form is now putting him on the radar for a potential call-up to the Nigerian national team, as the technical department monitors his progress.
Genk, currently four points ahead of their nearest rivals, Club Brugge, will be hoping that Arokodare’s goal-scoring form continues, as they seek to maintain their lead at the top of the table. His ability to deliver in key moments could be crucial for their title ambitions this season.
As Arokodare looks to maintain his momentum, he remains one of the most dangerous forwards in the Jupiler Pro League, and his rise to the top of the scoring charts has made him one of the standout players of the season.
