Fulham, a Premier League club, is on the verge of securing the signing of Super Eagles central defender Calvin Bassey.
As reported by Algemeen Dagblad, Bassey has already agreed to a multi-year contract with Fulham and is now en route to Orlando in the United States for his medical examination.
Pending a successful medical, the 23-year-old will finalize a five-year deal with the London-based club.
The pursuit of a left-footed central defender led Fulham to consider both Calvin Bassey and Ghanaian international Mohammed Salisu as potential options.
However, Bassey emerged as the preferred choice over Salisu for the position, leading to negotiations with Ajax Amsterdam for his transfer.
Bassey's absence from Ajax's traveling squad to Germany for a training camp and his non-participation in the friendly against Anderlecht further signaled his imminent departure from the 36-time Dutch champions.
Fulham has already agreed to a transfer fee of twenty-one million euros with Ajax Amsterdam for the talented defender, who is a product of the Leicester City academy.
During his time with Ajax, Bassey featured in 39 matches, contributing with one goal and five assists, showcasing his defensive prowess and ability to contribute in the attack.
Currently, Fulham is in the United States participating in the Premier League Summer Series. They are scheduled to face Aston Villa and Chelsea in their upcoming games before returning to London to continue their pre-season preparations for the upcoming Premier League campaign.
