Super Eagles Coach, Jose Peseiro sets ‘highest standards’ for players to represent Nigeria

Super Eagles head coach, José Peseiro, has emphasized that the standard for anyone representing the Nigerian men's senior national team must always be at the highest level.
Peseiro made this statement in response to the Super Eagles' performance after the team concluded their October international break with a victory over ten-man Mozambique.
On Monday, the Super Eagles secured their first victory in friendly matches since 2019 with a lackluster 3-2 win against the East African nation of Mozambique.
“After another period of training and matches, with the team and staff united, we have reinforced various aspects and identified mistakes to be corrected,” Peseiro stated.
“The standard for anyone representing the Super Eagles must always be at the highest level. The players’ effort was excellent, and as a result, we achieved victory in a friendly game for the first time in almost 5 years.”
Nigeria did not display significant improvement as they came from behind to defeat Mozambique. Faisal Abdul Bangal put Mozambique 1-0 up in the seventh minute, catching Francis Uzoho slow to react.
Terem Moffi performed well, netting the equalizing goal for the Super Eagles in the 18th minute with a rebound. Frank Onyeka scored his first international goal with a powerful shot in the 30th minute.
Moses Simon then extended the West African nation's lead to two goals with a penalty in the 45th minute. Mozambique, whose player had received a red card in the 37th minute, started the second half quite well.
Eventually, the efforts paid off for the Southern Africans who reduced the deficit to 3-2 through Geny Catamo in the 55th minute. Peseiro took to social media on Tuesday to react to the game.
Meanwhile, Peseiro had previously admitted that he was dissatisfied with his team’s 3-2 victory over Mozambique, as he believed they should have scored up to eight goals.
“My players were underestimating it because Mozambique had a red card,” Peseiro said after the game.
“The last time, I told them that conceding two goals against any team is bad, but today, we did the same. We created many chances, almost 13 shots, one-on-one situations, but we didn’t utilize them.
“We had many opportunities, and for that, I am not happy because we did not maintain as much concentration as we did against Saudi Arabia. We should have scored up to eight goals. We couldn’t cross well, we didn’t capitalize on our corners. For this, I am sad,” he said.
