After an emphatic 6-0 thumping of Sao Tome and Principe and subsequent qualifications to the 2024 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote D'Ivoire, Nigeria’s Super Eagles assistant coach George Finidi has highlighted the objectives of the team going into the 2024 Biennial's biggest African football competition.
On Sunday, at the Goodswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, the Super Eagles defeated Sao Tome and Principe to send a warning signal to their potential opponents in the competition.
The former Ajax Amsterdam winger admitted that every team going into the tournament wants to win it, and they are no exception.
“Every country wants to win the AFCON before the AFCON, but when you get there, it all depends on how you start the tournament."
If you start well, the confidence builds up, which will take you even further, so we aim to win it, but you never know what can happen.
“We’ll go there with the mindset to win it."
"The first mission for the AFCON is to win it," he said. Finidi won the competition as a player in Tunisia in 1994 under former coach Clemence Westernoff.
