As the Super Eagles of Nigeria prepare for the 23rd edition of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, set to take place across Canada, Mexico, and the USA against Lesotho and Zimbabwe on Nov. 17 and Nov. 20, there are concerns about the fitness of many regular members of the senior national team. Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has been added to the list of injured players.
The Super Eagles are expected to host Lesotho on Friday, Nov. 17, and then travel to Zimbabwe for the Match Day two encounter, three days later, at Huye Stadium.
The depleted Super Eagles squad already includes Napoli FC's Victor Osimhen on the sidelines due to muscular injuries, while defender Semi Ajayi is also doubtful.
The injured first-team players will undoubtedly be a headache for a team that has been experiencing underwhelming performances in recent matches. Nigeria also missed the last World Cup slot to Ghana.
Recent news from the camp of the midfield maestro suggests that Leicester City player Ndidi has been completely ruled out of the two clashes.
Leicester manager Enzo Maresca revealed ahead of the Foxes' Sky Bet Championship tie against Leeds United that the midfielder is suffering from a muscular problem.
"Wilf will be out until the international break. It is also a muscular problem," Maresca was quoted by the club's official website.
"It's a small thing but when the problem is muscular, even if it's small, it's always one or two weeks because we don't want to take any risks."
Recall that talismanic striker Victor Osimhen has also been ruled out for the games, while there are concerns about the availability of defenders Semi Ajayi and Bruno Onyemaechi.
