Sunshine Stars management has given an ultimatum of two matches to two of its assistant coaches, Akin Olowokere and Banjo Adepoju, to ensure that the team secures four points out of a possible six in the two away fixtures of the Nigeria Premier League.
The ultimatum was reportedly issued by the Commissioner for Sports, Bamidele Ologunloluwa, before the team embarked on two away matches. They lost to Plateau United with a score of 1-0, and they are yet to play against Katsina United on Sunday.
However, fans and stakeholders are concerned about the developments within the team and the decisions made by the management, particularly their decision not to hold the Head Coach, Edith Agoye, accountable for team selection.
They argue that Agoye has been excessively indulged and has not faced any consequences despite receiving strong support from the team's management.
A football enthusiast, Seun Oguntoye, criticized the team's style of play, especially what he described as the defensive approach adopted by the coach, which has allowed opponents to excel despite the quality of players on the team.
Oguntoye called on the commissioner to focus his attention on the entire coaching staff and not just the assistants.
Tola Ajibade also emphasized that any issues with the team should be assessed comprehensively rather than through separate assessments or ultimatums, such as the ones given to the assistant coaches.
"We are not defending anyone, but what's fair for one should also be fair for the other. Agoye should not be exempt from these matters," he stated.
