Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure has taken a strong stance against three of its players who have been declared "Absent Without Leave" (AWOL).
The management of the Akure Gunners issued a statement urging the general public, particularly clubs in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), to be aware that the trio of AbdulRafiu Taiwo, Osimaga Duke, and Lucky Nwafor have been absent from the club without official permission.
The statement clarified that the three players have not returned to the club two weeks after they were expected to rejoin their teammates for training, and they did not obtain official leave or permission.
Meanwhile, the rest of the team is currently in Akure, preparing for the upcoming 2024/25 NPFL season.
In response, Sunshine Stars are warning other clubs and agents not to engage with the players regarding transfers without the club’s approval.
The management emphasized that the players are still under contract with Sunshine Stars, and any attempt to illegally secure their services will result in legal action.
