However, Remo Stars got an equalizer from the penalty spot in the 70th minute.
Nedu again struck in the 80th minute from an acute angle to send the stands into wild jubilation.
The goal eventually sealed a 2-1 win for the home team, moving them out of the danger zone.
Suraj Ibrahim gave Sunshine Stars their first attempt on goal in the 5th minute, but his long-range effort was off target.
In the 18th minute, Chidozie Iwundu should have squared the ball at the edge of the vital area for his teammate, but the right fullback miscued the opportunity.
Moments later, Promise Awosanmi and Lucky Nwafor both missed sitters as Sunshine Stars fans watched in amazement.
The visitors pushed hard in the second half, but the introduction of Nelson Osahon, Babatunde Adeniji, and Chinedu Nwosu helped to reduce their offensive onslaught.
However, the Akure Gunners held on to the win as the center referee signaled the end of the match after 4 minutes of added time.
With the victory, Sunshine Stars FC moved to 11th on the table with 49 points.
Sunshine Stars' coach, Kennedy Boboye, in his post-match interview, commended his boys for a job well done, urging them not to be complacent in their next two away matches.
"It's a sweet victory for us and well deserved. I'm glad we won, but let's not forget we still have two matches to play. I must also give kudos to the visitors; they gave us a good fight."
Sunshine Stars' next match is a rescheduled tie against Doma United next Wednesday.
