Sunshine Stars ex-striker joins Hungarian champions
Posted : 25 July 2023
FC Vaduz has officially confirmed the departure of Franklin Sasere, the former Sunshine Stars striker, who made an immediate move to Ujpest FC in Budapest, joining the top Hungarian league.
Despite having recently extended his contract with FC Vaduz for two more years, Sasere expressed his desire to move to Hungary, citing family reasons as the primary motivation behind his decision.
Although FC Vaduz had initially planned to include him in their season plans, they understood the importance of addressing his wishes and found a solution to accommodate his transfer request.
Franklin Sasere joined FC Vaduz last summer and made a significant impact during his time with the club, featuring in 48 competitive games, scoring ten goals, and providing six assists.
The sports director of FC Vaduz, Franz Burgmeier, conveyed his well-wishes to Sasere on his departure, expressing, "We wish Franklin all the best and much success in Budapest for the future." In response to the striker's exit, FC Vaduz promptly secured Seifedin Chabbi to fill the gap in their attack.
Sasere's new journey takes him to Ujpest, a club with an impressive record of 20 Hungarian league titles. At Ujpest, he will reunite with fellow Nigerian players Vincent Onovo and Peter Ambrose.
Sasere's professional career commenced at Ifeanyi Ubah in the Nigerian Professional Football League, where he honed his skills and showcased his goal-scoring prowess.
He later spent two years at Sunshine Stars before moving to Lugano in the Swiss Super League in September 2019, where he signed a three-year contract.
After a brief stint with Malta's Ħamrun Spartans, he joined FC Vaduz last year, marking another chapter in his football journey.
