In a dazzling display, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez led Inter Miami to a resounding 5-0 victory over Orlando City in Major League Soccer on Saturday. Despite Orlando's status as last season's Eastern Conference runners-up and contenders for this year's MLS Cup, they were outmatched by a dominant Miami side.
Suarez, initially grappling with sharpness and match fitness, silenced doubters by scoring two goals within the first 15 minutes, showcasing his prolific abilities.
"I'm very happy for him, that he was able to score. We were calm anyway, we know what Luis is and what he is capable of doing, and everyone knows it," said Messi. Suarez's first goal, a powerful first-time shot inside the near post, came just four minutes into the game.
His second followed seven minutes later, displaying close control in the box before confidently slotting the ball into the corner. Miami's control continued, and Robert Taylor extended the lead to 3-0 in the 29th minute after an excellent setup by Julian Gressel.
While Messi demonstrated his trademark skills, it was Suarez who continued to shine. Messi's curling free-kick hit the upright, and shortly afterward, he delivered a classy through ball to Suarez, resulting in another goal.
Despite Suarez's impressive performance, hopes for a hat-trick celebration were dashed by an offside flag. Orlando, seeking a comeback in the second half, faced further frustration when Martin Ojeda's effort was disallowed for offside.
