Stoke City 1-3 Hull City: Hull City claim fourth place in championship table
Posted : 24 September 2023
Hull City secured a convincing victory over Stoke City, climbing to fourth place in the Championship table. Despite benefiting from fortunate deflections for two of their three goals, Hull outplayed Stoke on their home turf.
The turning point came when Hull scored two goals in two first-half minutes from Aaron Connolly and Adama Traore. Regan Slater's long-range shot deflected in to seal Hull's third consecutive away win.
Despite Stoke's efforts, they struggled to compete with Hull throughout the match. Hull's first goal occurred when Jaden Philogene provided an assist for Aaron Connolly, whose shot deflected off Stoke defender Michael Rose's leg.
Then, shortly after, Adama Traore confidently finished from 10 yards. Stoke had a chance to respond, with Sead Haksabanovic's free-kick being turned aside by Hull goalkeeper Ryan Allsop.
In the second half, Allsop made another crucial save to deny Stoke's Wesley's powerful shot. Hull solidified their lead when Regan Slater's speculative left-foot shot deflected off a defender and over Stoke's keeper Mark Travers. Stoke's top scorer, Andre Vidigal, scored a consolation goal, but it was not enough to overcome Hull's dominance.
The defeat left Stoke in a challenging position in the Championship table, sitting in 20th place after a series of disappointing results. Hull's performance earned them a well-deserved victory, securing their place in the top four of the Championship.
