State Govt. sacks Nasarawa United FC's Mgt, board

Posted : 23 July 2024

The Nasarawa State Government has announced the immediate dissolution of its state-owned football club, Solid Miners. This decision marks a significant shift for the club and reflects broader changes within the state’s sports management framework. The abrupt end of Solid Miners' management underlines the state's commitment to re-evaluating and possibly restructuring its sports institutions to better align with its goals and expectations.

Governor Engr. Abdullahi Sule took the decisive step to dissolve the management team led by Dr. Othman Ahmed Ibrahim. This move is part of a broader effort to address various issues related to the administration and performance of the state-owned football club. Governor Sule's decision reflects a strategic approach to ensuring that the club’s management aligns more closely with state policies and objectives for sports development.

The announcement was formally made by Deputy Governor Dr. Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe, who represented the Governor at the meeting. This meeting, held at the temporary office of the Deputy Governor in Lafia, the state capital, also included key figures such as the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Jafaru Ango; Permanent Secretary Chief Barr. Isaac Danladi; and SSA to Governor Abdullahi Sule on Sports Affairs, Comrade Hamza Ibrahim Moyi. Their presence underscores the importance of the decision and the collaborative effort behind it.

The dissolution comes at a time when the Solid Miners have just returned to the elite Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after a two-year stint in the Nigeria National League (NNL). This return to the NPFL signifies a major achievement for the club, which had spent two years away from Nigeria's top football division. The timing of the dissolution raises questions about the future direction and management of the club during its pivotal return to the premier league.

Solid Miners are scheduled to play their first home game of the new NPFL season against Shooting Stars SC of Ibadan. This match will be a significant test for the team as they navigate the transition in management and seek to establish themselves once again in the top tier of Nigerian football. The game represents an important opportunity for the club to demonstrate its readiness and commitment to a successful season.

The dissolution of the club’s management has sparked discussions about the potential impacts on the team’s preparation and performance. With new management expected to be appointed, there may be a period of adjustment as the team integrates with the new leadership. This transition phase is crucial for ensuring that the club can maintain its competitive edge and achieve its objectives in the NPFL.

As the state government moves forward with its plans for Solid Miners, stakeholders, including fans and players, will be watching closely. The decision to dissolve the existing management highlights a proactive approach by the Nasarawa State Government in addressing any inefficiencies and ensuring that the club is well-positioned for future success. The coming weeks will be critical in shaping the club’s trajectory and reinforcing its standing in Nigerian football.
