The Honourable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, held a meeting with the Secretaries General of various National Sports Federations at the Media Center of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.
At the meeting, the Minister reminded the Secretaries General that they are, first and foremost, civil servants who represent the Federal Ministry of Sports Development in the various National Sports Federations.
To this end, he emphasized that the activities of the Federations must serve the best interests of the Ministry and the nation.
In order to galvanize the various teams for maximum productivity, the Minister stated that some funding requests for competitions by certain Federations, no matter how well-intentioned, do not align with the goals and vision of the Ministry and are therefore not in synchronization with the national interest.
He reminded the Secretaries General that it is their duty as civil servants to guide the Sports Ministry on the relevant and crucial competitions to be funded.
"This way, the Sports Ministry and the Federations can channel funds appropriately to build the right momentum for major competitions that serve and uplift the nation."
Enoh called on the Secretaries General to furnish his office with a memo that encapsulates the challenges they encounter in the line of duty, along with suggestions on how to resolve them.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports Development, Tinuke Watti, along with directors, senior staff of the Federal Ministry of Sports Development, and all Secretaries of National Sports Federations, were in attendance.
