The relegated Sporting Lagos FC confirmed on Saturday the departure of several senior team players following the expiration of their contracts.
The club stated that these players have secured deals with other clubs as free agents.
Additionally, the Noisy Lagosians announced the departure of interim coach Abdullahi Biffo.
Biffo was appointed last season to replace coach Paul Offor after a series of poor results.
Despite his appointment, Sporting Lagos was relegated, and it has been confirmed that the team will compete in the lower division next season.
Biffo, however, confirmed that he will not renew his contract with the Lagos-based club.
He also mentioned that he is still evaluating his options to determine his next move.
Regarding the players' status, the Tech Boys' management said: “Following the conclusion of our debut NPFL season and the confirmation of our relegation to the Nigeria National League, a number of our squad members for the 2023/24 season have parted ways with the club.
“As most of the players were on one-year contracts, their deals expired, allowing them to become free agents and pursue opportunities with other clubs within Nigeria and abroad.
“Even in a challenging season, Sporting Lagos has proven to be a valuable platform, providing players with the visibility needed to secure highly sought-after transfers.
“We are now focused on the transfer market to strengthen the squad ahead of our 2024/25 NNL campaign.
“The club wishes to express its gratitude to the players listed below for all their contributions to our journey so far. We wish them success in the rest of their careers.
“We can also confirm that contract negotiations are ongoing with players not on this list. We will provide updates on these negotiations as they progress.”
The full list of departures includes: Agbor Ekoi, Asibe Nathaniel, Ini Edem, Ejike Uzoechi, Clement Naantuam, Chinedu Ufere, Godwin Odibo, Jonathan Alukwu, Chisom Orji, Naibe Akpesiri, Wisdom Fernando, Vincent Akpikpi, Henry Ndedi, Mike Zaruma, Junior Lokosa, Rivio Anyemwenre, Paschal Durugbor, Adeleke David, Patrick Egeonu, Nwokeji Chiemeka, Nnamdi Henry, Samuel Ayanrinde, Kalu Chukwuemeka, Isaac Annor, Ekene Olisema, and Phillip Odubia.
