Game against Doma Utd difficult for us says Sporting Lagos FC Coach, Offor

Posted : 16 October 2023
In a game that many Lagosians expected to earn maximum points, where Sporting Lagos FC could have had a smooth ride, unexpectedly, the points were shared against Doma United at Onikan Stadium.

The Match Day 3 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) between Sporting Lagos FC and Doma United FC, which ended goalless, could have been an opportunity for the Lagos Boys to solidify their position at the top of the league table if they had won.

The nervy match saw Coach Paul Offor make four changes from the team that started against Akwa United. Ozaveche replaced Emeka following his ankle injury in the game against Akwa United, while Junior Lokosa started up front with Akpesiri, who made his Sporting Lagos debut. Odibo, also a debutant, started on the flanks.

Sporting Lagos FC began the game with intent, creating early chances in the first half, but struggled to convert them.

Nevertheless, the fact that the Lagos Boys created chances made the game enjoyable to watch, as it seemed they could have capitalized on them for a goal.

In the first half, Sporting Lagos FC had to make two substitutions within 10 minutes, with Patrick and Orji leaving the field due to injuries, replaced by Ekene and Isaac.

In the second half, the Offor-coached team pushed further up the pitch and attempted to create more scoring opportunities.

The attacking forays, however, opened up Sporting Lagos FC's defense, while Doma United attempted to capitalize with counterattacks. Nonetheless, the Sporting Lagos backline was strong enough to secure their third clean sheet of the season.

Offor explained what transpired during the game, saying, "It was a challenging game for the team. We lost two players in the first half, but we managed to stay in the game, dominate, and create chances. It's disappointing that we didn't convert any of those chances, but the positive aspect is that we created those opportunities. The boys displayed determination, and that's always a positive sign."

"Our next game is an away match against Remo. This team has the quality to earn points on the road. We're learning as we go, and we know we'll improve. We will assess our injured players ahead of our next game. We don't know how serious the injuries are, but we have a good medical team, and we know they'll be well taken care of," he said.

Sporting Lagos FC will face Remo Stars at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Sunday, October 22.
