Spain and Germany secured their spots in the final of the 2023 UEFA European Women's Under-19 Championship after thrilling matches. In the first semi-final, Spain managed to edge past the Netherlands with a 1-0 victory.
Júlia Bartel capitalized on Femke Liefting's error to score the decisive goal in the 12th minute. Spain's passing game and well-worked moves inside the Netherlands' half proved to be the key to their success. Despite late drama when Rosa van Gool had a penalty opportunity for the Netherlands, Spain held on to secure their place in the final.
The second semi-final between France and Germany was equally intense. France's Louna Ribadeira scored twice in quick succession, giving her team an early advantage. However, Germany fought back with determination in the second half.
Laura Gloning found Jella Veit, who scored a powerful strike to bring Germany level. As the match progressed, Germany continued to dominate, with several close chances, but France's defense held on. In injury time, Paulina Platner equalized for Germany, forcing extra time.
In the added period, penalties seemed likely, but Franziska Kett managed to break through France's defense, completing Germany's comeback and securing their place in the final against Spain.
The final match will take place at Den Dreef Stadium in Leuven, Belgium, on Sunday, July 30. The encounter promises to be an exciting showdown as it is a repeat of the 2000, 2014, and 2018 finals.
