Southampton's Kyle Walker-Peters Suffers Racial Taunts Following Manchester United's Draw

In response to racist comments made on social media about defender Kyle Walker-Peters after their goalless draw with Manchester United, Premier League club Southampton confirmed on Monday that they are in contact with the authorities.
Following his challenge on United's Alejandro Garnacho at Old Trafford on Sunday, Walker-Peters faced online abuse, which led manager Erik ten Hag to pull his second-half replacement.
As Garnacho later left Old Trafford on crutches, Ten Hag was able to ascertain that he had twisted his ankle. Garnacho's season stats include four goals and four assists.
Following a game against Manchester United in February 2021, Southampton issued a statement regarding one of its young players receiving terrible racial abuse.
“More than two years on, we find ourselves in the exact same position: disgusted and disappointed in the behaviour of those online who lower themselves to abusing players for the colour of their skin. Reads Southampton’s statement.
“What is equally frustrating is the lack of meaningful action in those two years from the social media platforms who allow such hatred to breed and fester.”
In addition to reporting the posts to the social media sites, Southampton said that the communications had been forwarded to Hampshire Police.
"We can only hope that they finally pay attention to what continues to be a major problem and that we do not find ourselves repeating these words in another two years time," the club added.
Instagram's parent company, Meta, claimed to have spoken with the group and to have taken down several comments for flouting their policies.
The English Football Association and the Premier League both denounced the abuse.
